Our group has been and continues to be busy. Several
events have been planned, so go ahead and mark your
calendars:
1. Annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 31, 10-11:30 AM.
Children need to bring their baskets and see how
many eggs thay can find. We will also have crafts
and a light lunch will be served.
2. Lutheran Women Sunday is April 8.
3. Congregational Meal Fundraisers will be held on May
6 and September 23 which will be held immediately
following church services. These fundraisers are
held in order for our group to help those in need. As
of now, we are helping 3 people/families. It’s a
wonderful feeling to know that you have put a smile
on someones face and helped take some stress
away if only for a day or a few hours.
4. We continue to collect food/items for We Care. The
boxes are located in the fellowship hall to collect the
items. Next time you go grocery shopping, pick up a
few extra items for We Care.
5. This year we will be hosting a Mother-Daughter Tea
Party. A Tea Party which will be held on June 23 at
4 PM in the fellowship hall.
We thank everyone for their continued support through
the year.

Up and Going in December
Posted December 26, 2017 By admin December 14th dawned a beautiful day, perfect for the Up and Going Christmas Celebration Meeting. The decorations were bright and pretty and put each in the mood to enjoy the celebration. We had 19 members and guest enjoy the festivities. Each member brought a dish of party finger food for lunch. The meal was bountiful and delicious. This comment was heard, “first time that I have enjoyed a FULL meal of just finger foods”. Bob Ziemer gave the devotions from the Advent Devotional, Waiting for the Lord 2017 by The Rev Dr Daniel M. Wendel. Bob and Gloria then led us in singing three Christmas Carols as they read a Christmas Story. A Chinese gift exchange followed. Everyone enjoyed this and the gifts were precious. Business was conducted. We were happy to have Pastor David and Sherry with us and hope that they will be able to join us each month. There was lots of laughter and happy comments as we cleaned up and put things back in order. The group departed filled with happy hearts and Christmas Spirit.
Also, a total of 90 pounds of food was collected for We Care. In November, we donated 45 pounds of food as well. I am SO proud of you for thinking of others in our community.
Our January meeting will be held on the 2nd Thursday, January 11 at 11AM in the Fellowship Hall. We will make Hospice Bag Bows and enjoy our traditional Soup Pot for lunch. Each member is asked to bring an item for the soup, sandwiches or bread or a dessert. You are invited to come and be with us.
Love,
Helen

Posted December 26, 2017 By adminBeginning January 1st, Pastor David invites everyone at St. Jacob’s to join him in a year long Bible reading program. Brochures with the reading plan are located in the church Narthex. From time to time we will have opportunity to share refreshments and talk about the things we have read. Pick up a brochure and let Pastor David know that you are “all in” for reading the Bible in one year!
Worship and Music News
Posted December 26, 2017 By admin Wow! I must have blinked because it sure seems like 2017 flew by. In this new year, I look forward with anticipation to working with Pastor David Nuotilla in our ministry together. I also look back on this last year and reflect on the trials & errors, the challenges & the successes, not only professionally but in my personal life as well. It is sometimes easy to see God at work … and sometimes much more difficult. The positive thing though, is that, in my heart and soul, I know that God is indeed at work in my life and in the life of the church, no matter what my eyes see, my ears hear and my mind thinks.
My heartfelt appreciation goes out to all the musicians who participated in worship services this past year; you truly enhanced the services & brought joy to the congregation. And no mere words can convey how much the support of the congregation means to mean. Being a church musician without the guidance of a full-time pastor was one of the biggest challenges of the last year and I hope that you will forgive me if I failed to live up to expectations. The one desire I have for my church music ministry is that the music I choose for each worship service is thought-provoking and meaningful, and above all else, is true to Scripture.
With that being said, my preparations for the Lenten and Easter seasons are already underway (and as I write this, we aren’t even through Advent yet!). The choir workshop that was held in November to work on/review Advent, Christmas & Epiphany music was very successful; we will continue the seasonal workshops with one on Saturday, January 27, from 9 am to 12 pm. The purpose is to read through and start learning Lenten & Easter anthems. The workshop will be held in the Sanctuary with lunch provided afterwards. We, the choir members and I, cordially invite any singers in the congregation to join us for this workshop.
Happy 2018!
Soli Deo Gloria, Laurie
