16th Annual Carolinas Lutheran Women (CLW) Convocation

The Carolinas Lutheran Women (CLW) Council joyfully invites you to our Sixteenth Annual Convocation this October, hosted by Organ Lutheran Church at Faith Lutheran Church. We would be honored to have the women of your congregation join us for a day of faith, joy, fellowship, and worship!

For this year’s Convocation, we’ll explore the healing oils and herbs of the Bible. Our prayer is that everyone leaves feeling renewed, encouraged, refreshed by His Word, and reminded of the hope, comfort, and love God pours into our lives each day. Come with friends from church, bring your daughter, mother, sister, or neighbor—or come on your own. All are welcome as sisters in Christ.   • Registration closes on September 30th. The $10 registration fee includes lunch.
  • Affiliated congregations may nominate a member (provided she has given her approval) or iindividuals can self-nominate to serve on the CLW Council. Nomination forms can be found online at https://www.carolinaslutheranwomen.org/.
  • Yearly contributions can be sent at any time to Linda, CLW Treasurer. Checks should be made payable to Carolinas Lutheran Women. This is not a mandatory contribution. All donations are completely voluntary. An annual amount of $60 is a recommendation.
  • A proposed 2027 budget will be presented during the Annual Convocation.
  • In-Kind Gifts for Rowan Helping Ministries (RHM) Shelter Services will be collected. RHM Shelter Services provide temporary shelter to Rowan County residents who have no alternative night-time residence. The shelter needs the following items for their residents: towels & washcloths; blankets; Q-tips; toothpaste; soap; travel-size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion; adult flip flops (shower shoes); and gallon & quart ziplock bags.
  • The Convocation Offering will be collected for NALC Disaster Response. Please make checks payable to Carolinas Lutheran Women and note “Convocation Offering.”
  • Hotel Accommodations: Individuals planning to stay overnight are to make their own reservations in Salisbury, NC. Area hotels include:

Women’s Bible Study

The Women’s Bible Study met on Monday, July 20th at the home of Susan. We enjoyed a devotion titled, “A Beautiful Bouquet” that focused on Psalm 139. Beautiful votive bouquets were created and enjoyed along with friendship and fellowship!

Our next meeting will be at the Chapin Ale House on Monday, August 10th at 6:30 PM. All women of St. Jacob’s (including friends!) are welcome! Please RSVP to Susan by Saturday, August 8th so we can reserve a table.

VBS in July

Mark your calendars for VBS 2026. Join us for Illumination Station Monday, July 13th through Thursday, July 16th. Experience what it means for Jesus to be the Light of the World. There will be classes for all ages including adults. Children will rotate classes for lessons, games, music, and crafts. Our meal will be served starting at 5:45 PM and VBS will start at 6:30 PM and end at 8:00 PM.

On Sunday, May 17th, the Women’s Group will be hosting an “Old Timey Luncheon” in honor of our 250th Anniversary. We are asking that you furnish an old timey side dish and/or a dessert. Some suggestions include green beans, butter beans, some type of squash, potato salad, liver nips, homemade bread or cornbread. Our group is furnishing fried chicken. So, pull out your cookbooks and look for some old Dutch Fork recipes. If you need any suggestions or recipes please call Phyllis, Joan or Patricia.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone. So come and enjoy some delicious food and wonderful fellowship!

Pastoral Devotion for February – Bring Your Children

Read Matthew 19:13-15

Bring your children. Bring them to church. Saturate their lives with the Word of God.

Even if they lay on the floor.

Even if they need a sippy cup and a pack of goldfish crackers to keep them occupied.

Even if you must stand in the back swaying back and forth holding them.

Even when it’s hard.

Even when your pew looks like a small hurricane just came through.

Bring them to church. Even when you feel the glares and stares of others, don’t let that stop you.

Bring them to church and give them room in your pew.

Let them see you worship. Let them see you pray. Let them hear you sing.

Let them see you coming to the Savior with hands outstretched to receive his body and blood.

Because if they don’t see and learn these things from you, who will teach them?

The devil will teach them it’s not a priority.

The devil will teach them it’s okay to lay out.

The devil will teach them not to pick up their Bibles.

The devil will convince them to just skip worship all together.

Satan will have them so far off course and confused and misinformed that they will believe just being “good” is enough.

The world won’t teach them about Jesus.

The world won’t teach them about forgiveness.

The world won’t teach them about grace.

The world won’t teach them about heaven.

That’s your job.

It begins by bringing them to church.

So, bring your children. A church without the sounds of children is all too quiet.

A church without the presence of children is less joyful than it needs to be.

So, bring your children. Sit with them. Teach them. Let them sit with you. Let them learn from you.

Bring your children unto Christ, do not hinder them.

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, bless the little children of our congregation. Bless us with their presence as we worship you and praise your name. Amen.

Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat
