2017 Year end

Posted December 7, 2017 By admin

We have had a busy and rewarding year and we would like to thank everyone for their support. With your help, we were able to help several families in our church and our community.

The Fall Festival was a big success and was enjoyed by the children and adults. (See pictures on the back page of this newsletter).

The Youth Group will be going Christmas Caroling on Sunday Dec. 17 at 4:00 and our ladies group has been invited to join them.

Thank you,

Phyllis,

Leader

Lutheran Women Update

Posted October 28, 2017 By admin

Thanks to all that made our Fall Festival a big success. It was well attended and enjoyed by all.

The Caroline Lutheran Women Annual Convocation was held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lexington on September 30th and was attended by Gloria Ziemer, Sandra Brown, and myself. It was very informative and we shared it with the group at our meeting in October. The CLW has decided to support a foundation call RISE (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) – The Gary Sinise Foundation. It serves our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families and those in need. Please take time to go to their website which is GARYSINISEFOUNDATION,ORG. Our group made a donation to this foundation.

At our last meeting, several events were planned for next year. You will be hearing more about these in January, 2018.

Our thanks to all of you for helping us make 2017 a good year. We were able to help several families with their needs. This is also our goal for 2018. It is so heart warming to know, hear, and see their gratitude for our help.

We invite all ladies in our congregation to come join us on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 4:30 PM.

We continue to collect for “We Care”. The holidays are coming up and some are not as fortunate to have a delicious Thanksgiving meal as we all do, so let’s help make this possible. We will also be helping special families.

If you would like to make a special donation such as a turkey, ham or any item that cannot be put in the We Care box, please contact me.

Thank you,

Meeting

Lutheran Women’s 2016 Report

Posted September 7, 2017 By admin

Below is a list of some of our accomplishments for this year:

  • We began the year with helping the Lutheran men with Shrove Tuesday on February 9, 2016.
  • The Lutheran Women Lenten meal was served on February 17, 2016 consisting of spaghetti and all the trimmings.
  • The annual children’s Easter egg hunt was held on March 26, 2016 with many children in attendance. The children made different crafts, hunted decorative eggs and enjoyed a delicious lunch.
  • The Lutheran Women Sunday was held on Sunday, April 3, 2016. Our sermon was telling the story of 6 women of the Bible in the Old Testament.
  • We adopted a family of 5 for Christmas. There were 3 children plus mom and dad. It was such a joy to be able to give this family a wonderful Christmas.
  • On December 4, we helped the Lutheran Men with the Christmas Family dinner by decorating and furnishing the delicious desserts.
  • We invite all ladies of the congregation to join us on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 5PM in the Fellowship Hall.
  • Sent cards to our birthday honorees that are 75 and older throughout the year.

Our thanks to the congregation of St. Jacob’s for their continuous support and for those that made monetary contributions during the year.

Weclome to St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church

Short History

When St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church on the Wateree was founded, the portion of land the struggling German and Swiss settled was the Western frontier. The South Carolina Synod history speculates that St. Jacob’s was “probably organized in 1760” but the only fact we have as to its early existence is that on November 13, 1787 seven ministers representing about 10 congregations met to form the “Corpus Evangelicum”.
