Lutheran Women January Meeting
Posted December 26, 2017 By adminRead the Bible in One Year
Posted December 26, 2017 By adminBeginning January 1st, Pastor David invites everyone at St. Jacob’s to join him in a year long Bible reading program. Brochures with the reading plan are located in the church Narthex. From time to time we will have opportunity to share refreshments and talk about the things we have read. Pick up a brochure and let Pastor David know that you are “all in” for reading the Bible in one year!
Worship and Music News
Posted December 26, 2017 By admin Wow! I must have blinked because it sure seems like 2017 flew by. In this new year, I look forward with anticipation to working with Pastor David Nuotilla in our ministry together. I also look back on this last year and reflect on the trials & errors, the challenges & the successes, not only professionally but in my personal life as well. It is sometimes easy to see God at work … and sometimes much more difficult. The positive thing though, is that, in my heart and soul, I know that God is indeed at work in my life and in the life of the church, no matter what my eyes see, my ears hear and my mind thinks.
My heartfelt appreciation goes out to all the musicians who participated in worship services this past year; you truly enhanced the services & brought joy to the congregation. And no mere words can convey how much the support of the congregation means to mean. Being a church musician without the guidance of a full-time pastor was one of the biggest challenges of the last year and I hope that you will forgive me if I failed to live up to expectations. The one desire I have for my church music ministry is that the music I choose for each worship service is thought-provoking and meaningful, and above all else, is true to Scripture.
With that being said, my preparations for the Lenten and Easter seasons are already underway (and as I write this, we aren’t even through Advent yet!). The choir workshop that was held in November to work on/review Advent, Christmas & Epiphany music was very successful; we will continue the seasonal workshops with one on Saturday, January 27, from 9 am to 12 pm. The purpose is to read through and start learning Lenten & Easter anthems. The workshop will be held in the Sanctuary with lunch provided afterwards. We, the choir members and I, cordially invite any singers in the congregation to join us for this workshop.
Happy 2018!
Soli Deo Gloria, Laurie

December Meeting
Posted December 7, 2017 By adminOn November 9th, 12 Up and Going members gathered in the Fellowship Hall to enjoy the “Thanksgiving of Giving” gathering. Each member brought a covered dish for the meal. This type of meal is always a surprise as to what will be served but everything is always delicious; a perfect meal. Frances gave the devotions, program and conducted the business portion.
Each member was asked to bring 2 or more items for We Care. There was a total of 40 pounds of food delivered to We Care. They were most thankful for this contribution. It helped others have food for Thanksgiving. Special thanks to each of you for caring and helping others.
The December Meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec 14 at 11 AM in the Fellowship Hall.
Please bring party foods for sharing and 2 or more items (in lieu of Christmas Gifts) for We Care. Our goal for We Care for December is 50 pounds.
Bob and Gloria will have devotions and program.
Thanks,
Helen

Lutheran Women Update
Posted October 28, 2017 By adminThanks to all that made our Fall Festival a big success. It was well attended and enjoyed by all.
The Caroline Lutheran Women Annual Convocation was held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lexington on September 30th and was attended by Gloria Ziemer, Sandra Brown, and myself. It was very informative and we shared it with the group at our meeting in October. The CLW has decided to support a foundation call RISE (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) – The Gary Sinise Foundation. It serves our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families and those in need. Please take time to go to their website which is GARYSINISEFOUNDATION,ORG. Our group made a donation to this foundation.
At our last meeting, several events were planned for next year. You will be hearing more about these in January, 2018.
Our thanks to all of you for helping us make 2017 a good year. We were able to help several families with their needs. This is also our goal for 2018. It is so heart warming to know, hear, and see their gratitude for our help.
We invite all ladies in our congregation to come join us on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 4:30 PM.
We continue to collect for “We Care”. The holidays are coming up and some are not as fortunate to have a delicious Thanksgiving meal as we all do, so let’s help make this possible. We will also be helping special families.
If you would like to make a special donation such as a turkey, ham or any item that cannot be put in the We Care box, please contact me.
Thank you,
Meeting
Posted October 28, 2017 By adminThe best word to describe this meeting was fun! The next Up and Going Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 9th, in the fellowship hall. The meal will be Turkey Stew with all the trimmings.
