Director Of Youth and Family Ministries

Dear St. Jacob’s Families,
I want to share the Holy Spirit’s burden on my heart. Let us look to the calling our heavenly Father has given us through Christ Jesus. To make disciples of all nations, teaching them all He has taught us. (Mt 28:18-20).
That vision I have for families at St. Jacob’s is to dive headfirst into the surpassing knowledge of the love of Christ for sinners and sufferers. And to become lights to their families and the world around them. (Mt. 11:28-30, Eph 3:17-19, Jn 6:37, Mt 5:14-16)
My goals are for the families, with the power of the Holy Spirit:
• To learn from the Son that they may see and glorify the Father. (Mt 11:28-30)
• To endlessly search for the riches of their identity in Christ. (Eph 3:17-19)
• To rest entirely in the never-ending promise to never be cast out. (Jn 6:37)
• To go into the world and be a light that draws others to Christ. (Mt 5:14-16)
With that as the foundation, I would like to invite families, both parents and their children, to join us for a weekly meeting where we might allow Christ to dwell in our hearts through faith, being grounded in love—comprehending with all the saints of God what are the breadth, length, height, and depth of the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that the Holy Spirit would fill us with all the fullness of God. (Eph 3:17-19)
Would you join us for a night of worshiping our Father through songs, teaching, fellowship, games, and more?
Brothers and Sisters, how wonderful would it be if we as a church might come to desire and delight in the calling of Christ Jesus. Our Friend, our Elder Brother, our Lord and Master, our Savior and Redeemer.
We will be meeting every Tuesday night from 7 PM—8:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall, starting on May 10th . If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to me and I can get you plugged in!
In Christ,
Matt Burt

That’s a wrap on Musical Mondays! Thank you to all who participated and helped out- whether it be dropping off each week, providing a meal for our kids, or coming to our showcase to see all that we had learned- Musical Mondays was a huge success! We learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing so. Week one, we learned about why we worship God for all that He has done and all that He continues to do in our lives. Week two, we learned the song “Earth and All Stars” while talking about the creation story. Week three, we learned the story of Moses leading the Israelites through the Red Sea and the Prophetess Miriam leading the people by tambourine and song. Week four, we talked all about the life of David and how no matter what he went through, he always gave praise to God. Week five, we learned about the Psalms and shared the favorite Psalms of people we love. Lastly, Week six, we put it all together to show our friends and family everything that we learned. From tye-dying our own hand bell gloves, to making tambourines and lyres, musical beanbags, to learning forte and piano with our favorite game “I lost my closet key” — we had a blast. Thank you again to all who participated, it truly was a great summer together!
Blessings,
Rachel

Farewell and Godspeed

As we prepare to begin a new season of Sunday school and Youth activities, we do so having said goodbye to our friend and sister in Christ, Rachel Shelton. With much of her work happening behind the scenes of everyday congregational life, I would assure you the church office is going to be a much quieter place. Rachel served our congregation well and became an important part of our ministry. As we begin our search for a new Director of Youth and Family Ministries, we do so with thankful prayers and ask God’s continued blessing on Rachel in her life and witness to the Gospel.

Musical Mondays has been such a huge success for our church and especially our kids. There was such a wonderful response when we first announced it to the congregation. Over the past five weeks, we have sang, danced, made tambourines and lyres, and played numerous games together. Yes, we have fun. Of course we do. But the real growth of these children has been in all that they have learned. We start our morning out with a time of devotion and a lesson for the day. Our main objective is to learn that no matter what situation you are in, no matter how you do it, and no matter what anyone else says – you are called to worship God. Worship is our joyful response for all that God has done for us. Throughout each week, we learn different ways that we can praise God – by doing crafts, by being silent before the Lord, by reading Psalms, or by being in God’s house with each other. It truly has been a wonderful experience, and we still have a few weeks left. Watch your worship folders for a MUSICAL MONDAY SHOWCASE to be held. We would love to see you there.
In Christ,
Rachel

St. Jacob’s Families and Youth are invited to a night of fellowship to watch the Columbia Fireflies take on the Augusta Green Jackets on Sunday July 25th at 5:00 PM. Tickets are $10.00 per per-son/child (children 2 and under are granted free admission.) We will meet at Segra Park, 1640 Freed Street, Columbia SC, and parking is an addi-tional $4 cash per car. There will be a sign-up sheet on the Narthex Bulletin Board if you would like to attend this event. You can make all checks out to St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church Youth Account or give cash payments to Rachel (on Sunday mornings or during the week in the church office!)

We recognized our St. Jacob’s high school graduates on June 13th. The celebration followed the service with cake in the Fellowship Hall. We are so proud of each of you and God bless you all in your next endeavor. God bless the graduates as they begin the next chapter in their lives.
