Posted August 30, 2021 By adminThat’s a wrap on Musical Mondays! Thank you to all who participated and helped out- whether it be dropping off each week, providing a meal for our kids, or coming to our showcase to see all that we had learned- Musical Mondays was a huge success! We learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing so. Week one, we learned about why we worship God for all that He has done and all that He continues to do in our lives. Week two, we learned the song “Earth and All Stars” while talking about the creation story. Week three, we learned the story of Moses leading the Israelites through the Red Sea and the Prophetess Miriam leading the people by tambourine and song. Week four, we talked all about the life of David and how no matter what he went through, he always gave praise to God. Week five, we learned about the Psalms and shared the favorite Psalms of people we love. Lastly, Week six, we put it all together to show our friends and family everything that we learned. From tye-dying our own hand bell gloves, to making tambourines and lyres, musical beanbags, to learning forte and piano with our favorite game “I lost my closet key” — we had a blast. Thank you again to all who participated, it truly was a great summer together!
Blessings,
Rachel
Take Up Your Sword
Posted August 1, 2021 By adminThe author of Hebrews tells us that God’s Word is alive. It’s not an ancient book that’s out of date and no longer important in today’s world. The Word of God is filled with wisdom and knowledge we can use today. The Word of God still speaks to us. It speaks to people picking it up to read it for the first time, and it speaks to people who have read it all their lives. You can never read it enough, and you can never learn enough from its pages. The author of Hebrews and Paul both describe the Bible as a sword. It can cut us deep, showing us what’s wrong with our lives so we can get it fixed. It can also defend us and save us from sin. The Bible is a powerful tool for life. It’s a weapon to fight temptation, and it’s an instruction book for following God. As many from our congregation read the Bible in 90 days, our Christian Education team thought it would be a great opportunity to get our children involved too! Over the next 12 weeks, join us in Sunday School as we focus on the Word of God. We will learn how to find things in the Bible, learn the books, and what the words inside say about our lives as followers of Jesus. We will also send home a “make it stick” resource for parents, so that you will be able to continue these conversations throughout the week at home! We are really looking forward to it.

Posted July 29, 2021 By adminMusical Mondays has been such a huge success for our church and especially our kids. There was such a wonderful response when we first announced it to the congregation. Over the past five weeks, we have sang, danced, made tambourines and lyres, and played numerous games together. Yes, we have fun. Of course we do. But the real growth of these children has been in all that they have learned. We start our morning out with a time of devotion and a lesson for the day. Our main objective is to learn that no matter what situation you are in, no matter how you do it, and no matter what anyone else says – you are called to worship God. Worship is our joyful response for all that God has done for us. Throughout each week, we learn different ways that we can praise God – by doing crafts, by being silent before the Lord, by reading Psalms, or by being in God’s house with each other. It truly has been a wonderful experience, and we still have a few weeks left. Watch your worship folders for a MUSICAL MONDAY SHOWCASE to be held. We would love to see you there.
In Christ,
Rachel
Sunday School Teachers
Posted May 28, 2021 By adminIf you’ve ever thought about teaching Sunday School, now is your chance! We are now opening our classrooms again to new volunteers. There is only one class for our younger members, and it is a great opportunity to serve and have some fun! The lessons will be given to you two weeks in advance so you will have plenty of time to look over them before your scheduled date. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board in the Narthex. We are currently scheduling through the end of the year, so there are many dates available. If you have any questions, contact Rachel or Sherrie. We would love to assist you in any way that we can.

Posted May 4, 2021 By adminSpiritual gifts are specific ways the work of the Holy Spirit is manifested in our lives. These gifts – on top of our interests, hobbies, abilities, likes and dislikes join together to form who we are and how we participate in the work God is doing all around us. We all have needs, and when you put us all together to make up a church, those needs become the church’s needs. As we hear the Gospel, it changes our hearts. Our attention will begin to turn away from ourselves to those around us. Galatians 6:10 says “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” You can see the Gospel through the local church all across the world. Our church is sustained by faithful volunteer service. The church is people who love Jesus parking cars, holding babies, reading the Scriptures together, pouring tea and lemonade, and opening their homes. The Lord can use anybody. All you have to do is be willing to answer the call. This seems so small, but it really does require a change of heart. A good measure of our spiritual health is our depth of concern for other people. A phrase my friends used to say in college was “love finds a need and meets it.” We are all of the same body, brothers and sisters, and there is no doubt that we love each other here at St. Jacob’s. There is no better way to show love than to let God work in and through us by helping one another. If we learned anything this past year, it’s that we don’t want to do life alone. We’re not made for that. Even the most introverted people need to know that someone is in their corner. As we begin to open up, welcome people back, and begin having events, I want to encourage you to participate. There is so much to do and so many people to catch up with. I don’t want to ever take for granted how blessed we are to have each other here. Don’t be afraid to reach out to try something new or attend something new. We need to trust that God will equip us, guide us, and give joy for the work.
In Christ,
Rachel
