On Thursday, May 10th, twenty-one members and guests boarded the St. Jacob’s Express and headed for a day in Charleston. Ray Seay gave the devotions based on daily opportunities given by God for us to acknowledge God’s presence in our lives. He ended with prayer and asked God’s blessings on our trip. We arrived at Gilligan’s and enjoyed a delicious seafood lunch. We then headed to Wadmalaw Island for a tour of the Charleston Tea Plantation. We took the trolley ride tour through the tea fields, stopping at the greenhouse and other points of interest. The trolley driver gave a wonderfully informative commentary on the workings of the tea plantation. We got to see Steve, the expert tea blender and taster at work in the greenhouse and in the field. Our trolley was equipped with speakers so that we could enjoy a narrated tour by William Barclay Hall, founder of American Classic Tea and world renowned tea taster. We went on the Factory Tour, using flat screen TV, you could see the production process while overlooking the factory. Both were great tours! We enjoyed tea tasting and making purchases in the gift shop.
Then it was time to move on to the Angel Tree, the oldest Evergreen Oak tree in the country. Impressive and so beautiful. Then it was time to go home….
Thank you to Gerald for driving for us and being patient and helpful. We had a great time on our Charleston adventure.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, June 21. We will be going to Saluda, NC and having lunch in Hendersonville. Continue to watch your worship folder for more information.
Thanks, Helen
